Is this using Xpra sessions? If so, can you try with jpeg compression?
Holding the modified key (which is 'Shift' by default) when clicking on
the start menu entries will allow you to choose the session type and
their options (ie: jpeg).

Have you tried using NX or VNC for the sessions? Does it help?
