That's odd. What login shell does this user have?
The shell syntax was changed in 0.14.x, but nothing new here since 0.14.0

There was also a bug in 0.14.9-1, I have just rebuilt 0.14.9-2
specifically for CentOS 5.x
The strange thing is that I don't see how this bug could have caused the
error message you posted!
Please try the same thing again:
yum clean all && yum update
To see if the updated package fixes it.
