Message-ID: Hello, I have a linux cluster, and I have installed xpra on it a frontend, it is running CentOS 6.3. Can my winswitch on my machine (windows xp) connect to this, or do I need to install winswitch on the server? I have some problems installing winswitch. If I need to install winswitch on the server, is there a way to install a 'minimal' winswitch, which only works as a server and does not have dependencies on eg. nx? I don't see any use for the graphical docked tool on the server. Those aren't strictly required by winswitch, it is an RPM packaging issue. DEBian packages allow for soft dependencies, RPMs do not. You can always install from source. > I don't see any use for the graphical docked tool on the server. Me neither. I think you need all of those: xorg-x11-font-utils xorg-x11-server-utils xorg-x11-fonts-base xorg-x11-fonts-misc Let me know which one is missing from the RPM dependency list and I'll add it for the next release. I am connected via Xpra over ssh, but even though I have no sessions open, just connected to the server, winswitch uses two cores at 100%. Sorry, not installed the latest Ubuntu yet, not particularly keen on finding out what they have managed to break this time around. Sounds like these permissions issues are to do with Xvfb/Xdummy rather than xpra itself. Trying the other option may work around that. I've added this to my TODO list. Trying the other option may work around that. I've tried several times to figure out the syntax/method to shift to Xdummy - what is the syntax with recent builds? To clarify: I am doing a total clean install (format of the partition, not an upgrade) of Ubuntu 12.10 / Ubuntu 13.04 on a system with Intel HD 4000 Graphics drivers (Ivy Bridge chipset) - no special Nvidia or ATI drivers installed here. Ubuntu 12.10 - no problems, Ubuntu 13.04 and these permission problems come up. One more install comment: ubuntu 13.04 seems to not have libwebp2 so I manually installed a .deb file I found at http://ubuntu.wikimedia.org/ubuntu/pool/universe/libw/libwebp/libwebp2_0.1.3-3_amd64.deb to get xpra to install. Thanks for the details. Oh great, in raring, they've changed the library name from "libwebp2" to "libwebp4". This required patching the build files and a package rebuild. I've just pushed these (completely untested) packages here: http://xpra.org/dists/raring/ (let's hope that the encoder bindings and actual picture encoding is backwards compatible... at least xpra should run as webp is not the default encoding) As for the rest: * python-numeric no longer exists but it is a soft dependency anyway, this is done to avoid having separate package control files for old distros which do not have python-numpy. * All the other soft dependencies do seem to exist though, so you just need to configure your system to get those packages from the ubuntu repositories: http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/python-numpy http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/python-gst0.10 Cheers Antoine PS: I have not bumped the package version numbers so you may have to force your package manager to re-download the newer package builds. Fatal server error: xf86OpenConsole: Cannot open /dev/tty0 (No such file or directory) which I can hack chmod, but then /dev/tty8 does similar, then xf86EnableIOPorts permission problem comes up next. If you want, I can setup a KVM guest on a reverse-ssh proxy of a virgin Ubuntu 13.04 install and leave it open for you for a couple days to poke around. P.S. One note about my first posting in this thread, I left out step between 4 and 5 where I did the -- echo "deb http://winswitch.org/ raring main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winswitch.list; -- I did it on my system but left it out in my email posting ;) From stephen at hilltx.com Wed May 8 04:19:55 2013 From: stephen at hilltx.com (Stephen Gutknecht (hilltx)) Date: Tue, 7 May 2013 22:19:55 -0500 Subject: [winswitch] Ubuntu 13.04 - virgin install - repository install of winswitch / xpra In-Reply-To: <5189C1A2.8000209@nagafix.co.uk> References: <5189BD77.7090500@nagafix.co.uk> <5189C1A2.8000209@nagafix.co.uk> Message-ID: On Tue, May 7, 2013 at 10:08 PM, Antoine Martin wrote: >> Fatal server error: >> xf86OpenConsole: Cannot open /dev/tty0 (No such file or directory) >> >> which I can hack chmod, but then /dev/tty8 does similar, then >> xf86EnableIOPorts permission problem comes up next. > More than likely, this is to do with Xdummy vs Xvfb, please see my > previous post. If it does, my bet is on the gtk fix. Then I don't think you have too many options, upgrading CentOS is easier than maintaining your own gtk backports. As per the clipboard testing section: http://xpra.org/trac/wiki/Clipboard#Testingtheclipboard Otherwise, I will have to reproduce your setup so I will need to know all the usual details (distro version, application used, etc), more generic info here: http://xpra.org/trac/wiki/ReportingBugs#Guidelines Cheers Antoine > > > On Thu, May 16, 2013 at 2:51 AM, Antoine Martin wrote: > >> Never mind, clipboard should be fixed for *nix clients (again - sorry >> about that): >> http://xpra.org/trac/changeset/3399/xpra >> and for v0.9.x: >> http://xpra.org/trac/changeset/3401/xpra >> >> I will try to push the bug fix asap. >> In the meantime, it would really help if people could confirm that this >> fix has not broken MS Windows clients again... >> (aka "greedy" clients in the code) >> >> Thanks >> Antoine >> >> >> >> On 14/05/13 00:15, Douglas Doole wrote: >>> Thanks Antoine. At the moment if the connection pauses for any reason the windows get greyed with spinners on. If the connection comes back quickly they recover but if it drops for a while (like an ADSL router restarting the link) then all of the windows get lost. It would be great if xpra could recover from long dropouts, and also from other similar situations such as suspending the client machine for a few hours. Is it possible the client could re-initiate the ssh connection and restart automatically if the connection fails? Even better if it could do that and restore all of the windows without them going away or moving. Thanks Antoine for all your work on xpra, it's getting better every time. The newish remembering of which virtual desktops windows are on is working great for me and helps a lot as I have many windows.
