Looks like your installation is trying to use Xdummy instead of Xvfb,
but the default xpra 1.x on Ubuntu 14.04 should be using Xvfb.
Did you modify your system to try to switch to Xdummy?

You can verify the current xvfb settings with:
xpra showconfig | grep Xvfb

I've just tested a default installation and Xvfb started without problems.
